Pipe Band School

Pipe Band School is our structured learning program for bagpipes, snare drum, tenor and bass drums.

No musical experience is necessary.

Students progress through beginner, intermediate and advanced instrument classes taught by experienced, award-winning instructors.

Do you already play bagpipes or Scottish drums?

Experienced youth players of all levels are always welcome.

Lessons: When and Where

Weekly lessons are on Tuesday evenings during the academic year.

• 5:30-6:30pm: Beginner pipers and drummers in Pipe Band School.

• 6:30-8:30pm: Parade and competition level pipers and drummers.

All lessons take place in Shoreline, WA, right off Hwy 99 and close to Interstate 5. This venue has sufficient classrooms for all the students and their respective levels and instruments and a room large enough for them to play together.

Students come to our rehearsals in Shoreline from a variety of areas across Western Washington including Redmond, Bothell, Anacortes, Vashon Island, Port Angeles, Seattle, Mt. Vernon, and more.

Performances & Competitions

Throughout the year the band plays for a variety of events including the Northwest Folklife Festival, weddings, birthdays, Celtic festivals, whisky tastings and a variety of other events.

During the summer the band participates in several regional highland games, and about every 5 years travels to Scotland for additional highland games and to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland!

Membership Fees

Members pay monthly membership dues for the months the band is in session -- typically October through July. Monthly membership dues are as follows:

Pipe Band School (per student):
PBS 30-45 minute class: $75/month
PBS 30-45 minute class (second family member): $70/month
PBS one-hour class: $100/month
PBS one-hour class (second family member): $90/month

Kilted Band Member (per student):
Parade Band: $105/month
Parade Band (second family member): $95/month
Competition Band: $120/month
Competition Band (second family member): $110/month

**Discounted fees are available for those wishing to pre-pay for the entire season.

NWJPB works hard to ensure our lessons are affordable for students and families. If a student has the desire to learn bagpipes or drums, NWJPB is proud to offer need-based scholarships. Contact us for more information.
